According to social media reports, Xi Jinping has been placed under house arrest and demoted from his role as leader of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA).
Official confirmation has yet to be provided by the country's state media or the ruling Chinese Communist Party.
Xi Jinping recently visited Uzbekistan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, where he met with numerous other state leaders.
In addition, he visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi in person for the first time since border disputes between India and China strained relations in 2020.
Several tweets were made about Xi's apparent home detention. Some even claimed that a military coup had already occurred and that PLA vehicles were on their way to Beijing.
Rumours about Xi Jinping's detention at home come after China executed two former ministers earlier this week.
