Their employer stated that two women journalists who had been writing about recent incidents in Tripura were taken into custody by Assam police. They were then arrested on Monday by Tripura police. They were identified in a First Information Report (FIR), at Fatikroy, in Tripura on Sunday.
According to a statement by the network, they were taken into custody by Assam Police on Sunday while travelling to Silchar.
Swarna Jha and Samriddhi Sakunia, both writers for HW News Network said that they traveled to Tripura for three consecutive days to cover vandalism reports in a handful of religious institutions. A top police officer had stated in Agartala that on Sunday, journalists posted photos on social media claiming that a Gomati mosque was burned and that a Quran copy was damaged.
V S Yadav, Police Director General, stated that Samriddhi Sakunia posted on Twitter hatred between communities, fabricating information, hiding records, etc., all in the pursuit of a criminal conspiracy. The Investigating Officer decided to file a suo motu complaint against Samriddhi Sakunia for inciting hatred among religious groups by concealing documents, false fabrications, etc.
