Rahul Gandhi, a Congress leader, has approached the Bombay High Court to have an FIR against his in a Mahesh Shrishrimal’s defamation case quashed.
The Bombay High Court has been approached by Rahul Gandhi, President of the National Congress, to halt the issuance to him of summons in a case involving defamation. Mahesh had filed an accusation against Rahul for the ‘Chowkidar Hi Chor Hai’ remark that was directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the Rafale fighter-jet deal in 2018.
Shrishrimal stated that Rahul Gandhi’s statements had caused hurt feelings among the prime minister’s supporters. The matter has been referred to the high court for hearing on November 22. The president of the Congress has invoked freedom of speech and expression to defend competing interests of political parties as well as the right of political debate.
