Habibganj railway station in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal has been renamed after Gond Queen Rani Kamlapati, whose kingdom was usurped by Afghan commander Dost Mohammed by deceit.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Saturday and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this decision.
The station is to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.
According to the state government, the renaming is to honour the memory and sacrifices made by a queen of the Gond community. People of Madhya Pradesh are thankful to the Prime Minister for renaming the Habibganj railway station after Rani Kamlapati, the Gond queen of Bhopal, the CM said in a statement.
The Madhya Pradesh government had on Friday written to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for renaming the upgraded Habibganj railway station stating that it will honour the legacy and bravery of the widow of the Gond ruler of Nizam Shah. The state governments send the request to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the nodal ministry for these matters, which then accords its approval, keeping the Ministry of Railways in the loop.
